محرمات نکاح، در میان پیروان تمام ادیان، با قاعده‌های متفاوت وجود دارد. اما دین اسلام محرمات نکاح را یک امر جدی اخلاقی، اجتماعی و شرعی دانسته، بنابراین به جزئیات در این مورد پرداخته و چارچوب مشخصی را برای محرمات نکاح تعیین کرده است که محرمات نکاح با کدام شرایط صورت بگیرد و چرا این شرایط برای ازدواج معتبر است. در این تحقیق احکام فقهی مرتبط با محرمات نکاح در فقه امامیه و شافعی در محرمات دائم (بالذات )و موقت (بالعرض) مطرح شده و پس از آن به بررسی تطبیقی رأی و نظر هر یک از مذاهب شافعی و امامیه در مسائلی که با هم اتفاق یا اختلاف دارند به اختصار اشاره خواهد شد و مطالعه محرمات نکاح و شرایط آن و محرمات ازدواج با ذکر مراحل و موارد حقوقی و اامی آنها در هر دو مذهب امامی و شافعی مورد بررسی قرار گرفته است. از امتیازات این روش که بیانگر ضرورت این اثر می باشد ، این است که نگارنده در قالب چهار فصل به بررسی تطبیقی و مقایسه ای مذهب فقهی اهل بیت (علیه السلام )با مذهب سنت شافعیه با ذکر وجوه اشتراک و افتراق آنها پرداخته است.
